#History :The Narkwa Polyclinic on the 15th of June received a Donation of a Diathermy Machine donated by Ekumfi MP, Hon Dr Othniel Ekow Kwainoe and his wife as part of Mrs. Aba Egyirba Kwainoe's birthday.
The Machine which was a needed tool for surgical operations was received by Dr. Ehunu Armah on behalf of the Ekumfi Health Directorate .
Accompanying the MP and his wife was the Party chairman of the NDC in Ekumfi, Alhaji Joseph Antobam and the party youth organizer, Elder Maxwell Adokoh.
Alhaji Antobam joined Dr. Ehunu Armah to express gratitude for the gesture done.
Below are the details of the machine and what it does.
A diathermy machine uses high-frequency electrical currents to produce heat in body tissues (medical diathermy) or for cutting/coagulating tissues during surgery (surgical diathermy).
• Uses of a Diathermy Machine
1. Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
Relieves muscle pain and spasms.
Reduces joint stiffness.
Improves blood circulation.
Promotes healing of soft tissue injuries (sprains, strains).
•Used in conditions such as:
Arthritis
Low back pain
Frozen shoulder
Tendinitis
Bursitis
2. Surgical Diathermy (Electrosurgery)
Cuts tissue during operations with minimal bleeding.
Coagulates blood vessels to control hemorrhage.
Removes abnormal tissue such as warts and tumors.
Used in general surgery, gynecology, ENT, dermatology, and neurosurgery.
3. Deep Tissue Heating
Heats tissues beneath the skin without excessive surface heating.
Increases tissue extensibility before stretching or exercise.
Diathermy machines are mainly used for pain relief, improving circulation, reducing muscle and joint problems in physiotherapy, and for cutting/coagulating tissues during surgery.
